Tutoring by Older Siblings (part 2 of 2)

Convincing siblings to extend help

In the beginning, this set up might not work since older children are busier ay school and even with their social lives. In fact, it might be hard to convince the older one to render help, enough and elaborate explanation might convince him or her to do so. But this doesn’t mean that you cannot ask older siblings to so some tutoring.

For parents to convince older siblings to tutor the younger ones at home, make the tutoring session appear as the best "bonding moment" for both of them. At times, siblings may tend to fight with each other when they are at home. Despite that, they still love each other no matter what.

For the older sibling to be convinced in providing homework help to the younger one, convince him or her that tutoring the younger child will serve as a way to lessen their fighting incidents. You can also tell him or her that the child will be endeared to him or her if the older one is willing to help in minor tasks such as helping the latter in his or her schoolwork.

They can also explain to the older child that you are helping not just the younger child but you as well. Older siblings are expected to understand that you are not giving him or her the responsibility of tutoring the younger child because you want to but because you cannot do it due to the fact that you are working for the entire family.

If you explain very well how much you appreciate the help such as this coming from her or him, the older child will feel his or her worth to the family.

Tutoring by Older Siblings (part 1 of 2)

Experts say that aside from the demanding academic set up, another reason why students—especially the younger ones—get tired of schooling is the volume of assignments given without getting enough help such as tutoring from people around them. This is the reason why teachers as well as other school officials encourage that the family do something to help the child with school wok when at home.

Alternative role

More than anybody, parents are expected to do tutoring for their children. They are the ones who are supposed to monitor the academic status of the child and should also be there when help in terms of homework or projects is needed.

Sadly, many parents are not able to give this kind of help to their children because majority of them is working. Due to lack of time and hectic schedule providing for the family, they tend to neglect the needs of the children in terms of schooling such as tutoring the child in finishing his or her homework or understanding the lessons that have been recently taught in school.

Although this case could be inevitable, it doesn’t mean that there are no other people to take on that role of tutoring the child when at home. For parents who are torn in between working and their role in helping their child in school, the best way to go about it is to think of options where to get help such as asking help from older siblings of the child. Many parents do not realize it but an older sibling helping a younger one in tasks like homework will strengthen their bond.

Famous Tapestries (part 2 of 2)

Everyone is well aware of the paintings of Michelangelo in the Sistine chapel. But are you aware that  there were also tapestries here that have historical significance? Yes, there are a few of these designed by Raphael. These depicted in the life of St. Peter and St. Paul as described in the gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. Only a handful of these survive as many of these were either burned or stolen when Rome was sacked during the 16th century.

When the production of tapestries moved from northern France to Belgium, it was here that the Spanish royal collection was made. It consists of 8,000 meters of historical tapestry with some designed by Goya himself. The challenging part given the large number of artwork made is that you won’t see this all in one museum since this is displayed in various historical buildings.

The nice thing about these works of art is that you don’t have to visit these places just to see it up close and personal. Because there is a demand for these pieces, museums and art dealers are selling replicas of these to the public. You just have to find someone who specializes in this and then buy it from them so you can display it in your home.

If you don’t want a replica, you can choose from the various designs available or commission someone to make your own personal tapestry.

There are other famous tapestries aside from those mentioned. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of these that are still made old fashioned way when it can be produced in vast quantities thanks to new technology. Some argue that this improves the quality of these products but there are limits to what it can do compared to the talent of a person.

Famous Tapestries (part 1 of 2)

Through the years, various tapestries have been acknowledged for its magnificent artwork. To give you an idea, here are a few of them.

The first tapestry shows evidence that one of the first made was done by the Greeks. This is referred to as the Sampul tapestry that was discovered in the Tarim Basin inside a mass grave dating back to the 3rd century BC.

The tapestry represents a Greek soldier while some argue that it is a centaur. Regardless of who is in the figurine, more than 24 different kinds of thread were used in making it. People will be able to see this when they visit the Xinjiang Museum in Urumqi, China.

Three centuries later, the Hestia tapestry was discovered. This one stands out because this was made from both linen and wool. People who would like to see it will be happy to know that this is displayed in Washington D.C.

Some tapestries tell the audience a story and this is exactly what you see in the Bayeux tapestry. The drawings explain the events leading up to the Norman invasion of England and the invasion itself with what is happening written in Latin. If you want to see the original, you will have to go to a museum in Normandy, France or just enjoy its replica in Berkshire, England.

The longest tapestry in the world is the Apocalypse tapestry and this depicts scenes from the Book of Revelation. It took 9 years to finish and sadly, only 100 meters is left of this artwork.

Basic Boxing Punches (part 2 of 2)

http://www.bromotravelindo.com

Uppercut – An uppercut is considered to be the most dangerous punch in boxing since it is the least used punch and thus the least practiced punch to avoid. It is a vertical punch that rises when thrown and usually targets the chin and torso. Uppercuts can be set up with a jab or thrown in combination.

It is the most effective punch to use during "inside fighting" or when boxers are close to one another. When executed properly, an uppercut can severely inflict great damage to your opponent. The manner which an uppercut is done is like curling your arm to pick up a bucket of water.

Jab - I have mentioned this last for a reason. Jab, while it is the least powerful, is the most important punch than any other punches known to boxing world. I didn't make this one up. The great Mohammad Ali used jabs more than 90% of the time. If jabs are the low-power boxing punches, how can it become the most important?

Jab has several purposes: it wears down the opponent gradually, it gives him a little sting, it keeps him away from you, and it can be used to set up stronger punches. In other words, jabs can be used both as an offense and as a defense.

A single punch is not enough to bring your opponent to the canvas. Once you learn the basic punches, you need to learn how to use it properly. Combination is crucial as it allows you to throw several punches, which increases the odds of hitting your opponent.

In theory a boxer should be able to thrown several punches in succession without losing his balance. By learning different combinations, not only you throw punches, you also throw it without making yourself vulnerable by your lack of balance.

Boxing requires that you are able to move well, keep your hands up, stay strong throughout the game, and be tougher if your opponent is tough. But most of all, boxing requires you to learn how to thrown a punch properly. Below are the things you must first learn:

Straight – A straight punch is the quickest and most direct way to hit an opponent. Since it can be executed on the traditional stance, a boxer can use a straight punch at his disposal - more often than any other type of heavy punches in his arsenal. A straight punch is also the strongest and the most preferred knockout punch by many boxers.

It usually targets the head of the opponent and provides a fairly good amount of damage when set up by a job or used in combos. A (right/left) straight punch is also known as a (right/left) cross punch since it is thrown from the chin that produces a crossing motion across the body. A straight punch is usually thrown by the rear hand with power. When it follows a jab, this move is called the "one-two" combination.

Hook – There is no exact opposite to straight but hook is probably it. If a straight punch normally goes right in the middle of the face, a hook is usually aimed at the chin. A hook can only be done effectively by swinging the arm in a horizontal arc. It is best when set up by a jab and followed by an uppercut or another hook. It possesses a knockout power.
